Hello everyone!
Today I have come up with my first ever recipe-blog which is a family favourite dish, Toddler approved and easy to make. The key ingredient used in this dish is moong daal.
Moong daal
is packed with protein and rich in vitamins Like iron, calcium b12. These all are very much essential for one’s health. Especially incorporating moong daal in children’s diet can benefit their overall growth. Moong daal also helps in weight management if consumed in a proper Manner. The recipe that i have shared today is actually very good for all the health freaks as well.
With so many healthy recipes around the internet, I am sure you will find this recipe unique and very tasty! Let’s first check the ingredients list and collect them all together so that the cooking process becomes easy.
Ingredients for idli batter
•1 cup soaked moong dal
•1/2 cup curd
•1tsp salt 🧂
•1/4 cup semolina
•1 tbsp lemon juice
•1 packet eno
•Cheese (optional)
Ingredients for oil tempering.
•1 tbsp oil
•1 tsp rai
•1 spring curry leaves 🌿
•1 dry red chilli (optional)
Ingredients for Chutney
•1 onion
•2 tomatoes
•1 green chilli
•4 large garlic cloves
•1 inch ginger
•Oil
•1tsp Mustard seed 🟡
•1 spring of Kaari patta🌿
•Salt to taste 🧂
•1tsp dhana powder
•1 tsp jeera powder
•1/2 tsp Haldi powder
•Kashmiri red chilli powder (optional, if u want to make it spicy) (I have not mentioned the measurement as you can add it accordingly)
•Fresh coriander for garnish 🌱
Method:
1. Wash and soak the moong daal for atleast 2-3 hours.
2. drain it properly, then add it into a mixer grinder along with curd.
3. Once its smooth transfer it into a bowl. Add all the other ingredients mentioned except eno.
4. let the batter sit for 15 minutes. Mean while prepare the tomato chutney.
5. after 15 minutes mix a packet of eno (approx 5 gms) into the batter.
6. Grease the idli stand a little bit with oil and then fill in the batter. You can also add a little bit of grated cheese on the filled idlis. I had added cheese in a few and some grated carrot in other few because my son loves carrot.
7. steam the idlis for 10 minutes and then put the flame off. Wait for 5 minutes and then open the lid. Once it comes to room temperature u can pierce a knife and check weather its cooked or not. If its cooked then the knife will come out clean.
8. Once the chutney is ready you can do a basic waghaar which is oil tempering on your idlis. I have mentioned the ingredients in the list above. Simply heat oil, then add rai. Once it splatters add curry leaves and dry red chilli. If you are making this for your kids then you can avoid dry red chilli. But if you want to make it a bit spicy then add dry red chilli otherwise just skip it. turn off the flame. Now immediately pour this onto the idlis.
Chutney.
1. In a belnder add onion, tomato’s, green chillies, garlic and ginger. Make a smooth paste.
2. take a pan and add oil. Once it’s heated add mustard and curry leaves. Let it splutter
3. now add the paste prepared for chutney in the pan. Along with it add all the masalas mentioned in the chutney ingredients list.
4. let in cook on medium heat until oil seperates.
5. the chutney is ready. You can serve it with your moong daal Idlis and enjoy!
This is how the recipe is prepared in no time and with ingredients which are easily available at our home.
