Introduction-

To answer this very controversial and overstated question, I would like to share my experiences first. You all know that I have a 9-month-old, and I write blogs on my experiences with him.

Why this topic? –

I chose this topic today cause this has become a controversial topic recently, and I thought that I must share my experiences to let other parents make a decision on what they must do for their children. Whether they should follow this no salt/sugar/maida Trend or not?

Well, I hope you get the answer to this question by the end of this blog. I want the parents who are reading this blog to read it from start to end properly and act on what they feel is best for their child, as every child is unique and precious to their parents.

What did the doctors have to say? –

As a mother, I always felt that what the doctor suggests is truly the best for my child, which is practically true, as they are specialised in this particular field and give logical as well as practical advice. That’s why the first thing I am sharing is about what different doctors had their say regarding this very question.

a. The doctor in my maternal city, to whom I would take my son when he was born, told me to avoid salt and sugar. He said it’s best to avoid these, but if your child is rejecting food, then you can put just a pinch of salt to enhance the flavour of the dish.

b. Internet doctors usually, or I will say most of the time, say that we must not introduce sugar and salt to the babies. They also provide actual scientific reasoning on why they are saying so.

c. Another doctor to whom I took my son for a check-up in Aurangabad city, suggested that you must give salt and sugar to your child, as all this drama of not giving salt and sugar is just Internet beliefs and advice which you must avoid.

What do my husband and I think after getting different suggestions from different doctors? – First of all, to tell you the truth, when we got different advice from different places, we were very much confused about what we actually must do. We were like – now what? What is the right thing to do? Slowly, we realised that not all doctors have the same answer to give. It is we parents who have to decide what is the right thing for our child. So we did some research online, saw a few podcasts, and compared all that with what the actual offline doctors we met had a say. Then we finally came to a conclusion.

Do I give salt, sugar, maida, or processed food to my baby? –

The answer is NO. We do not put salt, sugar, maida, or any processed food in our baby’s diet. (Although sometimes I add a pinch of salt to my babu’s food, but never sugar or any other processed food items) The reason being that after doing some research and seeing the actual state of our generation, we realised that we are the generation that was fed the most cerelac, processed food like biscuits etc, as all this is very easy to feed and is delicious for children. Also, due to a lack of knowledge in the children’s field at that time, our parents weren’t aware of the consequences of giving these foods to us. But now, thanks to so much research on children’s diet, we know that by giving all this to our children, it is affecting their later life. Our generation has so many problems like PCOD, PCOS, low fertility in men and women, diabetes, heart disease, and whatnot at a very small age. So we thought, why not cut these from our children’s diet and make their health way better than ours? Also, the crucial development of a child takes place in the first 5 years of life. Then why not make it the best development by providing a healthy option?

In the end, I will say that do what is best for your child. Many people have different opinions and will also taunt you if you actually don’t feed your child according to their advice. But, in the end, it’s your child and not theirs. So it is you who has to choose the right and best thing for the child.

Also, it’s not that all the advice is bad. You must listen to them, but do what you feel is best for your child.

Conclusion

With this, I conclude my article, and I hope that you might have got the answer to the question: Is it right to deny salt, sugar, and refined flour to your children?
